Revolution at the Strasburg Theater
Friday, June 27, 2008
If you're looking for a good time band that brings positive energy, musical passion and an all around good- time party atmosphere to the stage, look no further than the Front Royal based "Revolution".
With a wide ranging set list that included Van Halen, Bob Seger, Wild Cherry, Bad Company, and even rebel redneck David Allan Coe, Revolution quickly proved that they're a force to be reckoned with on the local music scene.
Between myself, Robbie the soundman, and Brian the lighting director, we've seen quite a few bands come in to the Theater and put on some decent quality performances. In fact, many of these bands were actually quite good. But the truth is, if it's good time classic covers you seek, Revolution is probably the best all around band I've seen appear at the Strasburg Theater thus far. Many of the regulars in attendance had to agree.
These guys cover all the bases- from straight up rockin' tunes, to country & honky tonk, 70's funk, 80's slow ballads and everything in between. They even performed a Hendrix tune (Let me Stand next to your Fire) that was just spot on, with lead guitarist Jerry
buring up the fretboard with his blistering solos.
With Revolution, musicianship is a given, but showmanship is the real name of the game- from lead singer Sean's classy black 'guitar shirt' and cowboy hat, to keyboardist Justin's spot- light solo tunes and 'Journey' blasts from the past. At one point, Jerry was able to take advantage of his 'wireless' guitar to take a long stroll out into the audience, up the ailse to the bar area, and back down the other side, all without missing a beat! Then you've got the bass player/ vocalist Rick, who provides a level of infectious fun on stage that clearly rubs off on everyone in attendance.
But the biggest reason this band is so d**n good, and will most likely be around for quite some time, is that they have an absolutely slammin' drummer and percussionist named Drew, who's syncopated grooves and metronome- perfect beat keeps this band cranking it out all night long.
As any musician can attest, good drummers are hard to find, and really good drummers who know how to behave themselves and actually listen are even rarer. Drew's got the complete package. He's unselfish, extremely talented, and is a natural band leader, without looking like a ham up there. Drew somehow knows exactly how to bring out the best in his bandmates, without looking like he's showing off.
In short, the guys from Revolution add something extra to their performance that gets the audience involved, the dance floor crowded and the music fans clamoring for more.
